A spectre is haunting Europe again. Not only Europe, it was also seen wandering through the USA and other western industrial countries. It has been given different names – populism, neo-nationalism, identitarianism, even fascism. One thing seems to be clear: There are developments that threaten to undermine the very democratic system that has been the pillar of the liberal society after 1945, the pillar of a system that created peace and prosperity and social cohesion in Europe.
